Returning Hearts Celebration is part of an extraordinary ministry that has been taking place at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola since 2003. This ministry unites children for an unforgettable day with their fathers. They enjoy games, prizes, food, laughter, and Bible teaching while learning about a Savior who offers freedom from sin and the cycle of crime that, many times, exists in families for generations.
Returning Hearts Celebration is an opportunity for fathers in prison and their children to reunite, soak in the Gospel message, and rejoice in the Lord. It's a time when fathers who may not have seen their children in years can ask for forgiveness and begin reconciliation with their daughters and sons. For some fathers, if the time is right, it is an opportunity to share the Gospel with their children.
AWANA, an international children's ministry that was begun in 1950 near Chicago, has given leadership to this great ministry since it began at Angola in 2003.
1. We need volunteers at each event to help with transportation, assisting fathers and kids with the games, serving as family assistants, and serving food.
2. We need Returning Hearts Captains for each event to enlist volunteers from their church.
Please contact Kim Thomas for the date of the next Returning Hearts Celebration outreach in the Baton Rouge area. Her email address and phone number are listed above.
