Desire Street Academy

Ministry Description

Desire Street Academy (DSA) is a private, Christian high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. DSA’s mission is to transform communities by training students to pursue excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts in a Christian context.

Desire Street Academy was started in 2002 in the upper 9th Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana and stemmed from Desire Street Ministries. After Hurricane Katrina, the school found a home in Baton Rouge and quickly discovered that this is where God wanted and needed it to be.

Grades range from 8-12, with roughly 120 students in attendance. Approximately 80% of the students that attend Desire Street Academy are from homes where the household income is below the national poverty guideline.

DSA is proving that—with a Christian environment, staff committed to student’ well-being, and an emphasis on excellence both inside and outside the classroom—students from the inner city can achieve their goals and overcome tremendous obstacles.

Whether in the classroom or the playing field, students are regularly encouraged to grow in their relationship with Christ. We instill God’s word in our students by integrating biblical principles into every aspect of their education and life.
